Ingenio La Sonrisa


La Sonrisa mill was established in 1958 by Ricardo Samperio Cortes. Among the mills in the Sugar Agro Industry of Guatemala, it is one of the smallest mills, located 72 kilometers from the capital city, south east of the country, jurisdiction of Cuilapa, department of Santa Rosa.

During the year of 1950, the farm “Finca la Sonrisa” had its own sugarcane plantations on the flat part of the property, known as the Valley of Cuanjiniquilapa, with an existing TRAPICHE where panela (solidified raw sugarcane) was produced.


During harvest: over 120 direct jobs
No-harvest: more than 75 direct jobs.
