Ingenio Santa Teresa

History

Santa Teresa mill was established in 1864, in the Valley of Villa Canales, by JOSE MARIA ESCAMILLA LORENZANA, it is the oldest of all current operating mills in Guatemala.

It was formerly a dairy cattle farm, which produced cochineal and panela (solidified raw sugarcane). This was done in rustic tanks in small mills where the juice from the sugarcane was evaporated and the result was panela.

No-harvest: more than 256 direct jobs.

Did You Know?

Since the time it was founded, it has contributed to the development of education of the community of Villa Canales with the donation of land for the construction of four public and private schools for Primary education, a facility for High School education and a church building.
