Fundazúcar

In 1990 by Government Agreement No. 565-90, FUNDAZÚCAR was created as a link between sugar companies and communities, where there are plantations of sugar cane. Its goal is to develop the South Coast and migrant worker communities. The foundation is supported with funds from sugar industry.

FUNDAZÚCAR GUATEMALA, represents the sugar mills establishing the bond between company and the community; that is to say, from sugar mill door to outside.

Throughout his 25 years FUNDAZÚCAR have formulated, implemented and promoted human development programs in the framework of respect, self-management and the impact on public policy. Its projection has been focused on promoting sustainable development programs in the communities of Escuintla, Suchitepéquez, Retalhuleu, and Santa Rosa. Thus, relations with the community are no longer philanthropic and charity, becoming social responsibility practices and long-term development of institutional and community relations in the short term.

Framed in the philosophical principles of FUNDAZÚCAR: Decentralization, deconcentration, solidarity, subsidiarity and participation; leaving the latter as a factor of change by not considering the community as “beneficiaries” instead “participants” in a model of responsibility that allows each individual reaches his own welfare.

The human being is the center of the strategy FUNDAZÚCAR GUATEMALA, recognizing that the integral development of human capital is essential for the development of a nation factor. Hence work in the areas of education, health and strengthening municipal goverment.
